Sunwah Group cooperating with University of Jinan through a PPP project

Takungpao – The 31st of August marked the 110th Anniversary of University of Jinan. During the process of building the high–quality standard university, University of Jinan (UOJ) has developed and applied appropriate training programs, which have brought about great accomplishments. However, the rapid development has required the university to address certain obstacles that it is facing to, including lack of land, insufficient human resource and financial constraints. The 31st of August also marked an important turning point for UOJ in solving the current issues and moving to a new promising chapter.

A subsidiary of Sunwah Group, San Kei Land Development Co. Ltd., has cooperated with Jinan University through jointly signing a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project to renovate the University’s campus by cooperatively building and managing five junior campuses in three different locations as well as jointly solving the current issues at UOJ in order to raise the quality of education in the bay area of Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macau. This is also the first PPP project in Guangdong province, China.

Dr Jonathan Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group, in his speech at the Signing Ceremony, shared that, since July, the bay area of Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macau has become a focal development zone. UOJ has become the best university for the oversea Chinese. Moreover, the “Project 211” was established to build national key universities with high quality in order to provide excellent human resource for the development of the bay area. This PPP project will further promote the profound cooperation between Sunwah Group and Jinan University in setting a new standard for the quality of education at the bay area. Based on PPP model, Sunwah Group will apply international experience to develop five junior campuses in three different locations (Shipai campus, Panyun campus, Huawen Campus, Zhuhai campus and Shenzen campus) in order to create a sustainable and constantly improved-quality education environment.
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is an arrangement between public and private sectors who jointly build a long-term strategic partnership in the process of building infrastructure and contributing to the development of the community. During the partnership, UOJ shall provide land ownership while Sunwah Group is in charge of the entire project investment, full management of business-related aspects within the project scope, reasonable and efficient exploitation. The profits shall be properly allocated to both parties. President of UOJ, Mr Hu Jun said that: “This is an innovation in the form of cooperation between a university and the social resources, as well as a significant turning point for Jinan University in the enhancement of education environment.”

The Finance department of UOJ had reported to the Director of the Finance and Public Assets Management Department, Mr Ding Yougang, about the partnership between UOJ and Sunwah Group which is based on mutual understanding and benefits. On the one hand, Jinan University will receive financial support and international management experience to improve their facilities and develop a comprehensive education environment which in turn will raise the prestige of UOJ as a high-quality university. On the other hand, Sunwah Group can cover its investment costs through the efficient performance of the project.
