Opening of Jonathan KS Choi Cultural Center of Canada at University of Alberta

Takungpao – On 20th August 2018, the Opening Ceremony of the Jonathan KS Choi Cultural Center of Canada was held in University of Alberta, Calgary city, Canada.
The Ceremony was attended by around 200 guests, most notably the Consul-General of China in Calgary, Ms Lu Xu; former Minister of Finance of Canada, H.E. Doug Horner; President of University of Alberta, Dr David Turpin; as well as many academicians and experts from around the world.

The Jonathan KS Choi Cultural Center of Canada is the fourth Cultural Center established by Dr Jonathan Choi, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Sunwah Group, to promote educational – cultural exchanges and foster international cooperation. Before Canada, Dr Choi also established Cultural Centers in Vietnam, France and Japan.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Dr Choi shared, Education and Culture are two important factors in the globalization process. Dr Choi hoped that the Jonathan KS Choi Cultural Center of Canada will be the driving force for the comprehensive cooperation between Canada and China.
President of University of Alberta, Dr David Turpin, highly appreciated the opening of the Jonathan KS Choi Cultural Center of Canada and firmly believed that the Center will help the University facilitate educational – cultural cooperation with China.

On the same day, the University of Alberta also hosted an International Forum with the theme “New models for building global and regional business”. The Forum focused on the importance of regional and global cooperation in order to promote exchanges and cooperation between Canada and China.
Speaking at the Forum, Dr Choi shared about the developments of Hong Kong’s economy in the recent years as well as the potential of the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Bay area. Dr Choi encouraged the business community in Canada to seize opportunities for investment and expansion in China market, notably in e-commerce sector.
Also at the Forum, Dr Choi met with Ms Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion of Canada. They had an in-depth discussion about enhancing economic cooperation between the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Bay area and Canada through multilateral trade.
