On the morning of 28 August 2026, Dr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong; Chairman of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance; and Chairman of Sunwah Group, led a Sunwah Group delegation on a visit to the People’s Committee of Da Nang City. The delegation was received by Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee and Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee. The two sides discussed industrial development, investment cooperation and the mobilization of international resources to support Da Nang’s development.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Jonathan Choi highlighted Sunwah Group’s journey of more than 55 years of operation and development in Vietnam. To date, the Group has established Innovation Centers in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Sunwah is currently promoting projects in a wide range of fields, including artificial intelligence, robotics, drone training and applications, healthcare, new energy, smart housing and other emerging technologies.

Dr. Choi noted that Da Nang has a distinctive development direction and advantages compared with Vietnam’s two major cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. In particular, the City has considerable potential in emerging areas of finance such as fintech, digital assets and Web3.

Based on Da Nang’s characteristics and development priorities, Sunwah Group expressed its interest in promoting cooperation in the development of an international financial center, innovation, healthcare, green and smart logistics, and drone technology. The Group also aims to leverage its international network and resources to facilitate investment and implement related industrial projects.

Dr. Choi further proposed exploring the establishment of a regulatory sandbox in Da Nang to provide an appropriate and controlled environment for testing new business models, technologies and solutions. Potential areas could include pilot solutions and mechanisms for advanced technologies such as stem cells, cell therapies and innovative pharmaceutical products.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, said that the areas of cooperation proposed by Sunwah Group were aligned with the City’s key development priorities. Da Nang is currently advancing the establishment of the Vietnam International Financial Center in the City, with a focus on areas such as commodity markets, investment funds and carbon-credit markets. At the same time, the City is working to strengthen its ecosystems for innovation, finance, logistics and high-quality healthcare services.

In logistics, Da Nang already possesses essential infrastructure, including a seaport and an international airport, and is continuing to invest in and upgrade related facilities. The City aims to attract capable and experienced enterprises with advanced technologies to participate in the development of modern logistics infrastructure and services. The City’s leadership expressed its support for the directions proposed by Sunwah Group and looked forward to strengthening investment cooperation and progressively translating potential initiatives and projects into practice.

Both sides agreed to use the outcomes of the meeting as a basis for their relevant agencies and specialized units to establish a regular communication and coordination mechanism, formulate concrete action plans, and facilitate the early implementation of feasible projects in Da Nang.

Other Sunwah representatives attending the meeting included Mr. Jesse Choi, Chief Executive Officer of Sunwah Group’s Southeast Asia Region; Ms. Katie Nguyen, Deputy General Director of Sunwah Group in Vietnam and Chief Representative of Sunwah Group in Ho Chi Minh City; Ms. Thuy Ho, Director of External Relations of Sunwah Group in Ho Chi Minh City and Representative of Sunwah Group in Da Nang; Ms. Phung Chau, Deputy Chief Representative of Sunwah Group in Beijing and Representative of Sunwah Group in Hainan, China; and Ms. Celia Chen, Director of Sunwah Group’s Foreign Investment Promotion Center for Chinese Enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City.

Following the meeting with the City People’s Committee, the Sunwah Group delegation continued its working visit to the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology, Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company, the Da Nang Office of the Vietnam International Financial Center (VIFC), and Hospital 199 under the Ministry of Public Security. The series of meetings aimed to explore cooperation opportunities in technology and innovation, smart logistics, finance and medical technology in greater depth.

During the meeting with the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology, Mr. Jesse Choi introduced Sunwah Group’s network of partners in China, particularly in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, and expressed the Group’s interest in connecting relevant companies and technological solutions with Da Nang’s development needs.

The two sides discussed regulatory sandboxes, pilot programs and technology trials in areas including blockchain, medical technology, unmanned aerial vehicles, logistics and artificial intelligence. Mr. Le Son Phong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology, said that relevant projects would continue to be reviewed and assessed based on actual conditions and needs. The Department would also support Sunwah in connecting with relevant government agencies and local businesses. In addition, the Department welcomed Sunwah Group’s participation in developing initiatives under the Da Nang Innovation Space.

The delegation subsequently visited Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company, where it was received by Mr. Nguyen Dang Song, Deputy General Director of the Company, and representatives of the Port’s relevant departments. The two sides discussed the application of digital technologies and smart solutions to cargo handling, transportation and port logistics.

Representatives of Da Nang Port highlighted the need to upgrade its smart container connectivity and management systems and improve the efficiency of warehouse and yard operations. Mr. Jesse Choi said that Sunwah Group could help connect Da Nang Port with suitable technology partners and solutions in these areas.

The delegation then visited the VIFC Office in Da Nang and held discussions with representatives responsible for legal affairs, strategy and member cooperation. The discussions covered financial innovation, industrial development and potential opportunities for Sunwah Group to cooperate with Da Nang. The delegation also conducted a site visit to several potential land plots within the VIFC’s planned development area to gain a better understanding of its future development direction.

Later that afternoon, the delegation visited Hospital 199 under the Ministry of Public Security. The delegation was received by Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Vo Thi Hong Huong, Specialist Level II and Deputy Director of Hospital 199, and Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, who is in charge of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging.

At the meeting, Mr. Jesse Choi introduced the advantages of the LiverScan device in clinical applications and liver-health screening. Hospital representatives highly appreciated the device’s ease of operation and software connectivity. They also expressed an interest in further assessing the possibility of integrating LiverScan with the hospital’s existing Worklist and PACS systems.

The two sides agreed to continue detailed discussions on a clinical trial plan, system integration and the device’s potential practical applications.
