(27/08/2026) On the afternoon of August 27, the “2026 Vietnam–China Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Summit” was held in Hanoi, bringing together hundreds of representatives from government agencies, industry associations, technology companies, investment institutions, universities, and research organizations from Vietnam and China. The event was jointly organized by the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT), the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance (GBA Alliance), and Sunwah Group (Hong Kong), with the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Singapore (HKETO Singapore) and the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA).

In his opening remarks, Dr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong, Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance, and Chairman of Sunwah Group (Hong Kong), noted that the Summit marked a further step in advancing Vietnam–China relations from exchanges and engagement towards practical cooperation. Artificial intelligence and the digital economy have become major drivers of technological innovation and industrial upgrading worldwide. While Vietnam places strong emphasis on digital transformation and innovation, China has accumulated extensive experience in AI research and development, industrial applications, and ecosystem building. The two sides therefore have broad potential for cooperation in areas including AI, the digital economy, talent development, joint R&D, technology transfer, investment, and the implementation of practical applications.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich, Director General of the Department of Information Technology Industry under Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, presented Vietnam’s development priorities for the digital economy and artificial intelligence. He noted that Vietnam is actively promoting AI applications across various industries while continuing to improve relevant policies and legal frameworks. He proposed that the two sides work together to build an AI and digital economy ecosystem, strengthen cross-border technology and investment cooperation among Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises, universities, research institutions, and investment organizations, jointly cultivate high-level AI talent, and facilitate the deployment of more advanced technologies and innovative projects in Vietnam.

Overview of the Summit

During the Summit, participants also exchanged views on AI industry development, digital infrastructure, technological innovation, and opportunities for cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises. A number of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) were exchanged during the event, including cooperation agreements between PTIT and Sunwah Group; FECON Group and Sunwah Group; Sunwah Hanoi and Viettel IDC; Sunwah Hanoi and CMC Global; and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance and the Global Education Cooperation Association. These agreements are expected to further promote practical Vietnam–China cooperation in artificial intelligence, the digital economy, science and technology innovation, and talent development.

The Summit further strengthened the platform for exchange and cooperation among government agencies, industries, universities, research institutions, and investment organizations from Vietnam and China, creating new opportunities for both sides to deepen collaboration in artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
