Dr Jonathan Choi attended the 3rd Internet Economy Summit in Hong Kong

Takungpao – The 3rd Internet Economy Summit was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from 12th to 13th April 2018. With the theme “New Impetus for the New Economy”, the Summit focused on how technological advancement in artificial intelligence, the Internet, big data and cloud computing will further promote innovation and economic growth. More than 50 renowned experts and about 2,400 participants from all over the world attended the Summit.
Attending the Summit, Dr Jonathan Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group and Chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce which is one of the Summit’s main organisers, pointed out that the Internet and technology is changing people’s lives and business operations. With the nation’s comprehensive promotion of the “Belt and Road” Initiative along with the construction of the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Bay Area, the development of information technology and cross-border e-commerce is expected to become an important driving force for Hong Kong’s economic growth and trade cooperation among bay area’s economies.
He believed that development of the Internet and information technology will lead Hong Kong into a new era of digital economy and bring about many positive changes for its business community. In his speech at the Summit, Dr Choi shared, “E-commerce has dramatically changed the retail market, giving retailers more diversified sales channels. Additionally, online platforms help reducing geographical restrictions as well as bringing many business opportunities to micro, small and medium businesses and start-up companies.”

Dr Jonathan Choi commented that the recently-approved “Budget for Technology” by Hong Kong government puts forward strong and practical support for technology research and development in Hong Kong, including an investment of 50 billion HKD to focus on the development of biotechnology, artificial intelligence, smart city, financial technology and human resource.
