Dr Jonathan Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group, donated 100,000 medical masks to the French Government

Asean Top News – On 16th March, French President Emmanuel Macron declared France is in a state of war against the coronavirus that “mobilization of all resources is required in the fight against this invisible enemy.” He also stated that all medical masks must be produced within the country and be distributed to medical staff and French citizens infected with the virus.

To help France in its fight against the epidemic, Dr Jonathan KS Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group and Chairman of Jonathan KS Choi Foundation, donated 100,000 medical masks to the Embassy of France in China. Mr Mikaël Hautchamp, Counselor of Culture and Education, received the first batch of 50,000 masks on 31st March. On behalf of the Embassy, Mr Hautchamp expressed his gratitude to Dr Choi for his generous and timely donation to France during this time of hardship. The masks were sent to Paris on the same evening via diplomatic courier.

Dr Choi shared that, “For many years, the Jonathan KS Choi Foundation has worked very closely with the French Embassy to promote cultural and art exchanges between China and France. When I learned that the epidemic has spread to France, I decided to help as soon as possible. China and France have close relationship and France was also the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations with China. I would like to express my concern and support to France through this donation. ”

For many years, the Jonathan KS Choi Foundation has sponsored and organised many events to promote cultural and art exchanges between France and China, including:

The Jonathan KS Choi Foundation has been a key strategic partner in sponsoring the Croisements Festival since 2018. The Croisements Festival is the largest French cultural festival abroad and one of the most important foreign cultural festivals in China. The Festival features a series of event introducing and showcasing the beauty of many artistic disciplines of France and China as well as promote the cultural exchanges between the two countries.

In 2017, the Foundation held an exhibition entitled “History in the Making: Sketches for Iconic Paintings”, displaying 50 original sketches of some of the most iconic and revolutionary oil paintings of Chinese art.

In 2018, the Jonathan KS Choi Foundation alongside the French Embassy, together with the Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP) and the Beaux-Arts de Paris, hosted the exhibition “A French Dream” at the Chinese National Museum and the Yunnan Museum, showcasing 103 pieces of oil paintings and sculptures in France during the 19th century. It became a sensation not only in Beijing and Yunnan but also the whole China. The exhibitions attracted the participant of approximately tens of thousands of Chinese people as well as broadcasted by many local and international media. Furthermore, the Foundation also established the “Friends of Radio Station of France” in Hong Kong to support the Station.

At the end of 2018, the Foundation sponsored the “Ancient Cities” Exhibition at the Arab World Institute in Paris, France, which has became one of the most visited and successful exhibitions in Paris in recent years.
