Dr Jonathan Choi met with the Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Mr Duong Anh Duc

Sunwah – On 2 August 2022, a delegation led by Dr Jonathan Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group, had the meeting with Mr Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, together with leaders from the City’s Department of External Relations, Department of Planning and Investment, and Department of Science and Technology.

Mr Duong Anh Duc warmly welcomed Dr Jonathan Choi and Sunwah Group delegation to visit the HCMC People’s Committee. Mr Duong emphasized that Hong Kong has been a very important trade partner of Vietnam for many years. He hoped Sunwah Group, a Hong Kong-based conglomerate with long-term attachment with Vietnam, and also Dr Choi, as the Chairman of Sunwah Group and various business associations of Hong Kong/Greater Bay Area (GBA), will foster the win-win partnership between Hong Kong and also the GBA with Ho Chi Minh City in specific and Vietnam as a whole.

In the meeting, Dr Choi looked back on Sunwah’s 50-year history of development in Vietnam and its strong commitment to work with the Vietnamese government, local and international partners to contribute to the key socio-economic development goals of Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam. Recently, Sunwah was pleased to introduce the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to Vietnam market to meet Vietnamese enterprises’ capital needs via IPOs in Hong Kong and look forward to joint initiatives to promote Ho Chi Minh City as an emerging international financial center. Sunwah is also committed to working with leading universities and innovation leaders in Hong Kong to enhance the high-quality talent development, education exchanges, technology transfer between Hong Kong/GBA and Vietnam as well as contribute to develop Ho Chi Minh City into a smart city.

Mr Jesse Choi, Regional Director of Sunwah in ASEAN and Director of Sunwah Vietnam, also updated about Sunwah Group’s latest initiative – Sunwah Innovations, with two innovation centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Mr Jesse Choi highlighted the Centers’ mission of leveraging the Group’s international resources and joining hands with local ecosystem stakeholders to nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs and upcoming unicorns for Vietnam.

In addition, Sunwah Group and Dr Choi will continue to support the export of Vietnamese agricultural products to China and the world as well as attract more international investments into Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnam.

In response, Mr Duong emphasized the role of Ho Chi Minh City as the driving force of Vietnam’s economic growth and the hub of startups and innovation. He highly appreciated the continued commitment of Sunwah to the prosperity of Vietnam in general and HCMC in specific. He expressed his pleasure to hear about recent initiatives of Sunwah, which are aligned with the City’s vision and goals. Therefore, the City government will strongly support these initiatives and create favorable conditions for reliable FDI investors like Sunwah to further grow in Vietnam.

He hoped that Sunwah Group would lead more foreign investors to Vietnam, using its successful experiences to let other investors see the enormous potential of Vietnam’s economy. At the same time, he sent his best wishes for the future growth of the two Sunwah Innovation Centers in HCMC and Hanoi and expressed his positive expectation to see the next generation of Sunwah Group gaining another 50 years of success in Vietnam.
