On 8th July 2019, in her official visit to China, Vietnam National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with Dr Jonathan Choi – Standing Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Sunwah Group – in Nanjing. Madam Ngan highly acclaimed Sunwah Group’s 50 years of business in Vietnam as well as Dr Jonathan Choi’s contribution to the bilateral cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and Vietnam. At the same time, she expressed her positive expectation towards the next 50 years of investment in Vietnam of Sunwah Group.

Madam Ngan stated that she was very glad to meet with Dr Jonathan Choi in the first meeting of her whole visit to China. She emphasized that as an international corporate with a diversified multiple business portfolio, Sunwah Group’s development and investment were congenial with Vietnam’s situation and policy. Vietnam government leaders really appreciate Sunwah Group and consider Sunwah Group as a model for Hong Kong enterprises doing business in Vietnam.

She hoped that Sunwah Group would lead more foreign investors to Vietnam, using its successful experiences to let other investors see the enormous potential of Vietnam’s economy. At the same time, she expressed her pleasure to see the next generation of Sunwah Group and expected that Sunwah would have even better development in Vietnam, gaining another 50 years of success.

In the meeting, Dr Jonathan Choi looked back on Sunwah’s history in Vietnam as well as introduced new investment projects in the country to Madam Ngan. He said that Sunwah was not only a Chinese – Hong Kong enterprise but also a Vietnamese enterprise. In the past 50 years, Sunwah has been continuously making efforts to contribute not only to Vietnam’s economy but also to the country’s cultural development, social activities and other fields.

He stated that Sunwah had been the bridge to connect top finance and technology enterprises from Japan, South Korea and Europe to Vietnam. He also revealed that Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and he recently reached a common point of view to invest in important infrastructure projects in Vietnam such as railways, highways, container terminals and power plants.
Last year, during the Prime Minister’s trip to China to attend the first China International Import Expo (CIIE 2018), Dr Jonathan Choi invited top Chinese enterprises to meet with the Prime Minister to discuss the promotion of exporting Vietnamese agricultural products to Chinese market. Later on, Sunwah connected Liaoning government with Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to create more exchanges and cooperation between two sides.

Dr Jonathan Choi shared that Sunwah cared not only about its own development but also about contributing to the cooperation in all aspects between China and Vietnam. “We’re really grateful for Vietnam government’s long-term support during all these years”, said Dr Jonathan Choi, “Sunwah will make the best out of all available resources to develop our business in Vietnam, establishing the next 50 years of investment in the country.”
The meeting also had the attendance of Mr Nguyen Van Phuc, Head of Vietnam National Assembly Foreign Affair Committee; Mr Tran Luu Quang, Vice Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Communist Party Committee; Mr Dang Minh Khoi, Vietnam Ambassador in China; Mr Vo Thanh Thong, Deputy Minister of Vietnam Ministry of Planning and Investment as well as Mr Jesse Choi, Director of Sunwah Vietnam and other top managers of Sunwah China.
