High-level Hong Kong – Shanghai delegation to explore investment opportunities in the Philippines

China News – A high-level Hong Kong – Shanghai investment mission visited the Philippines from 22nd to 24th April to explore cooperation and investment opportunities in infrastructure development.
The mission, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in association with the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce, consisted of about 40 business leaders and services providers coming from a wide range of industries including finance, consultancy, architecture, energy, engineering and construction, legal and accounting, transportation and other sectors. This high-level investment mission was led by Mr Vincent HS Lo, Chairman of HKTDC, and Co-Mission Leader Dr Jonathan Choi, Chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of Sunwah Group.
During the three-day visit to the Philippines, the delegation met with local government officials, agencies and business leaders of the Philippines to explore and discuss potential collaborations between Hong Kong, Shanghai and the Philippines. The delegates also participated in project briefings and attended the “Hong Kong and Shanghai: Your Investment Partners” Luncheon hosted by HKTDC on 24th April.

Speaking at the Luncheon, Dr Jonathan Choi said, “The delegation is impressed by the prospects of infrastructure development projects in the Philippines. Apart from capital needs, we also see high demand for total solutions for infrastructure development. In our delegation, there are representatives from a wide range of services providers, from finance, architecture, energy to engineering and construction. They are ready to contribute their expertise to infrastructure development projects in the Philippines.”

In an interview with China News after the Luncheon, Dr Choi shared that Hong Kong and the Philippines has close relationship in trade for many years. He also noted that Hong Kong businesses should take advantages of their strong expertise in finance, trading and logistics, tourism and professional services to facilitate cooperation with Filipino businesses to not only expand business markets but also promote the “Belt and Road” Initiative.
