Saigon Times – “Our group has 60 years of history and we have had 45 years of operation in Vietnam,” said the Chairman of Sunwah Group, Dr Jonathan Choi.
Mr. Le Van Khoa (second from right), Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC, presented three Certifications to Dr. Jonathan Choi, Sunwah Group and Sunwah Foundation
“Our group has 60 years of history and we have had 45 years of operation in Vietnam,” said the Group’s Chairman, Dr Jonathan Choi.
The Sunwah Group, which operates in such main areas as Seafood and Foodstuff, Real estate, Financial services, Infrastructure, Technology, Media, and Education; first set up its foothold in Vietnamese market in 1970 via seafood processing plants in Saigon, Nha Trang and Kien Giang.
At that time, Sunwah was not only Vietnam’s largest exporter of agricultural and seafood products but also the largest importer of monosodium glutamate, electrical appliances and fertilizer.
“Up to now, we still engage in processing and trading seafood, coffee and other agricultural products in Vietnam,” Dr Choi said.
In 1989, Sunwah opened a representative office in HCMC and started to expand business to the real estate sector. The properties invested by Sunwah in Vietnam include the 22-storey Sunwah Tower in the center area of HCMC and the residential project of Saigon Pearl in Binh Thanh District.
Sunwah Group is also a founding shareholder of VinaCapital, a major investment and fund management company in Vietnam.
Mr Le Van Khoa, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of HCMC, stated that HCMC government highly treasured Sunwah Group’s contribution.
“Sunwah has made great contributions to Vietnam in general and HCMC in particular. We appreciate the group’s social and community activities implemented through the Sunwah Foundation,” Mr Khoa said.
