In late May 2026, Dr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group, led a delegation comprising Sunwah Group executives and nearly 80 Chinese business representatives on a series of visits and meetings in Hanoi, including at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU Hanoi), and the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT). The discussions focused on key areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, robotics, the low-altitude economy, innovation ecosystems, and high-quality talent development, further strengthening technology and innovation cooperation between Vietnam and China.

Exploring new opportunities for high-tech industry cooperation at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park

On May 26, 2026, Dr. Choi led the delegation to visit Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park and participate in a meeting with the Hanoi High-Tech Parks and Industrial Zones Management Board.

During the meeting, Mr. Le Thanh Son, Deputy Head of the Hanoi High-Tech Parks and Industrial Zones Management Board, welcomed Dr. Jonathan Choi and the delegation, and provided an overview of Hanoi’s high-tech park and industrial zone development strategy. The Hanoi High-Tech Parks and Industrial Zones Management Board currently oversees four high-tech parks and twenty-three industrial parks across the capital. Among them, Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park has been designated by the Vietnamese Government as a national hub for high technology and innovation, with a focus on attracting strategic projects in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, research and development (R&D), smart manufacturing, biotechnology, new energy, advanced materials, and sustainable green industries.

The two sides exchanged views on future cooperation in technology development, investment promotion, and innovation ecosystem building. The Management Board expressed its interest in strengthening collaboration with Sunwah Group and Chinese enterprises in areas such as AI, semiconductors, smart manufacturing, biotechnology, new energy, and advanced materials, while promoting technology transfer, business incubation, and innovation-driven development within Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.

Dr. Jonathan Choi highly praised the Park’s development vision and investment environment and reaffirmed Sunwah Group’s commitment to serving as a bridge connecting international technology companies with Vietnam, fostering deeper cooperation in innovation and technology between the two countries.

Strengthening Strategic Cooperation with Vietnam National University, Hanoi

Also on May 26, 2026, Dr. Jonathan Choi visited the Hoa Lac Campus of Vietnam National University (VNU), Hanoi, and held a working session with Professor Bui The Duy, President of the university.

Professor Bui The Duy spoke highly of the fruitful cooperation between VNU and Sunwah Group over the years, and introduced the master plan for the development of the Hoa Lac University Town. By 2030, VNU aims to complete the relocation and transformation of its major academic units to Hoa Lac. With an expected student population of approximately 80,000 during the 2025–2030 period, the campus is positioned to become a leading centre for education, research, and innovation in the region.

VNU also shared its strategic focus on key sectors including robotics, logistics, artificial intelligence, big data, and green energy, with the goal of building an integrated ecosystem that combines education, scientific research, innovation, and industry collaboration.

The two sides explored potential cooperation in scientific research, talent development, international business engagement, and innovation ecosystem development. Dr. Jonathan Choi shared Sunwah Group’s experience in fostering innovation ecosystems across multiple countries and proposed the possibility of establishing a Sunwah Innovation Center at Hoa Lac to connect Chinese and international technology partners with Vietnam’s growing innovation landscape.

Professor Bui The Duy expressed his hope that, through Dr. Jonathan Choi’s extensive international network and Sunwah Group’s global partnerships, more technology enterprises and international partners would be encouraged to participate in the development of Hoa Lac University Town, particularly in areas such as green energy, applied research, and high-quality talent cultivation.

Collaborating with PTIT on Artificial Intelligence and the Low-Altitude Economy

On May 29, 2026, Dr. Jonathan Choi led a Sunwah Group delegation to visit the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT), where he met with Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien, Vice President of PTIT, and senior representatives of the Institute.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien introduced PTIT’s history, academic strengths, and development strategy in information technology, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, automation, and digital transformation. As one of Vietnam’s leading institutions for technology education and research under the Ministry of Science and Technology, PTIT plays a vital role in training high-quality human resources for the country’s digital economy and innovation ecosystem.

PTIT also shared its achievements in research and industry collaboration in AI, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), robotics, and digital technologies. The Institute highlighted the growing importance of the low-altitude economy in Vietnam’s innovation agenda and expressed its ambition to promote UAV applications in smart agriculture, logistics, urban management, emergency response, and healthcare. PTIT is also actively engaged in technology research, standards development, and pilot projects related to UAVs.

Dr. Jonathan Choi commended PTIT’s achievements in education, research, and technology transfer. He introduced Sunwah Group’s activities in education, innovation, healthcare, financial services, and investment promotion, while emphasizing the Group’s long-standing commitment to fostering science and technology cooperation between Vietnam and China.

The two sides also discussed opportunities for collaboration in AI, the low-altitude economy, and innovation ecosystem development. In addition, they explored the possibility of organizing short-term academic exchange programmes for Vietnamese doctoral candidates and young researchers at leading Chinese universities, with the aim of enhancing research capabilities and broadening international perspectives for the next generation of talent.

Through these visits and exchanges with Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Sunwah Group further strengthened its partnerships with key stakeholders in Vietnam’s innovation, education, and technology sectors.
