The inauguration of the Bohai Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union with Dr Jonathan Choi as the Chairman

China.com.cn – On 20th July 2021, with the support of the United Front Committee of Tianjin, Shandong, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia, the Inauguration Ceremony of the Bohai Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union and the “Bohai Rim Regional Economic Development and Serving Beijing – Tianjin – Hebei Coordinated Development Summit” were held in Tianjin. More than 400 entrepreneurs from Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia and Hong Kong attended the event physically as well as more than 12,000 people attended virtually.

Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, sent her congratulation video to commemorate this Inauguration Ceremony. In her messages, she highlighted Bohai region’s unique location and geographic advantages with abundant natural resources as well as being one of China’s key economic development zone. For many years, Hong Kong and Bohai has had a close-knit trade – economic partnership and Hong Kong is the largest external investment source of this region. On the other hand, many enterprises from Bohai, Beijing – Tianjin – Hebei and Northeastern of China have expanded their businesses to Hong Kong. Mrs Lam also expressed her delight at seeing the Union attracting the participation of many Hong Kong entrepreneurs and believed the Union will greatly promote regional cooperation and further integrate Hong Kong into the overall development of China.

The Union was initiated by Dr Jonathan Choi, Standing Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Permanent Honorary President of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union and Chairman of Sunwah Group. Dr Jonathan Choi is also the Founding Chairman of the Union. The Union is based in Tianjin with more than 700 members from Hong Kong, Beijing, Tianjin, Shandong, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia as well as representatives of many foreign invested companies in the region.

At the Inauguration Ceremony, Dr Jonathan Choi pointed out that the Bohai Rim Economic Zone has unique location and geographic advantages with abundant natural resources, a strong industrial foundation, and outstanding scientific research and education achievement. The Union is committed to become a Chamber of Commerce and Think Tank and strive to become a bridge among member companies, government and society. 

The Union commits to unite all entrepreneurs in the Bohai Rim Economic Zone such as Beijing – Tianjin – Hebei, Shandong, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia, serve as a platform for entrepreneurs to participate in the “Cooperate to develop the Beijing – Tianjin – Hebei region” policy, become a Think Tank to provide timely advice for the members as well as become an essential in the promotion of the dual circulation development pattern. With the support from the government and related departments, Union members will join hand in the development of innovation, technology and startup, the promotion of cooperation and investment among cities, connect enterprises to banks, organize public services activities and perform corporate social responsibility.

In addition, the Union will actively support its members and strive to become a bridge between member companies and governments at all levels, universities, scientific research institutions, organizations, and markets. It will also connect with the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Greater Bay Area, the Yangtze River Delta, and in turn strengthen ties with Northeast Asia, ASEAN and countries and regions along the “Belt and Road”; promote cooperation between Beijing – Tianjin – Hebei region and Bohai Rim Economic Zone; accelerate the allocation of resources and exchanges among these regions.

Dr Jonathan Choi also shared that the Union will actively support entrepreneurs, notably young founders of startups in technology and innovation fields, and encourage them to contribute to the society and perform corporate social responsibility. At the same time, the Union will leverage Hong Kong’s unique advantages to support enterprises from the Bohai Rim Economic Zone to facilitate exchanges in trade – economic, culture and technology with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, ASEAN, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Mongolia.

After the Inauguration Ceremony, the Union will alternately organize annual meetings and large-scale events in Qingdao, Shenyang, Dalian, Jinan, Harbin and other places; organize delegations to visit Japan, South Korea, Russia, ASEAN, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and the Yangtze River Delta, and invite people from these countries and regions to visit the Bohai Rim Economic Zone.
