Sunwah – As part of a series of initiatives to promote Vietnam–China cooperation in healthcare and pharmaceutical development, Dr. Jonathan Choi, Chairman of Sunwah Group, led delegations of healthcare, pharmaceutical, and medical technology enterprises to meet with the Vietnam National Pharmaceutical Corporation (Vinapharm) and the Hanoi Department of Health on May 27–28, 2026.
The discussions focused on strategic areas of cooperation, including active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), biopharmaceuticals, innovative medicines, cell therapy, digital healthcare, smart hospitals, medicinal herbs, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and technology transfer.
Strengthening pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation cooperation with Vinapharm
On May 27, 2026, Dr. Jonathan Choi led a Sunwah delegation to visit and hold discussions with the Vietnam National Pharmaceutical Corporation (Vinapharm). The delegation met with Ms. Han Thi Khanh Vinh, Chief Executive Officer of Vinapharm, to explore cooperation opportunities in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.
During the meeting, Ms. Han Thi Khanh Vinh provided an overview of Vinapharm’s development journey and future strategic direction. As one of Vietnam’s leading state-owned pharmaceutical enterprises, Vinapharm has established a comprehensive ecosystem covering pharmaceutical research, manufacturing, distribution, import-export activities, and investment.

Vinapharm’s network includes major subsidiaries such as CPC1, Codupha, and Central Pharmaceutical Company No. III, as well as strategic partnerships with renowned pharmaceutical companies including Sanofi Vietnam, Imexpharm, Danapha, Mekophar, OPC, Pharbaco, Vidipha, Vimedimex, Mediplantex, and Medipharco. These partnerships position Vinapharm as a key player in Vietnam’s pharmaceutical value chain.
Vinapharm shared that it is actively seeking strategic partners to invest in the development of API manufacturing facilities, biopharmaceutical production, and finished drug manufacturing in Vietnam. The corporation is also prioritizing technology transfer projects related to innovative medicines, specialty drugs, and high-tech generic pharmaceuticals, while expanding cooperation in medicinal herbs, traditional medicines, and pharmaceutical raw materials.
Ms. Han Thi Khanh Vinh emphasized Vinapharm’s commitment to advancing pharmaceutical innovation in Vietnam and expressed strong interest in leveraging the research achievements, technological expertise, and industrialization experience of leading Chinese pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Jonathan Choi highlighted the remarkable progress of China’s pharmaceutical industry in recent years, particularly in innovative medicines, biopharmaceuticals, cell therapies, digital healthcare, and the modernization of traditional medicine. He reaffirmed Sunwah Group’s commitment to serving as a bridge between Vinapharm and leading Chinese pharmaceutical companies, facilitating cooperation in innovative drugs, biologics, cell therapies, medicinal herbs, and pharmaceutical ingredients.
Both sides agreed to establish a regular communication and project coordination mechanism to advance collaboration in technology transfer, API and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, medicinal herb development, and the localization of high-quality pharmaceutical production in Vietnam.
Connecting healthcare ecosystems between Vietnam and China
Building on earlier discussions in the pharmaceutical sector, Dr. Jonathan Choi led a delegation of approximately 30 healthcare and life sciences enterprises from China and Hong Kong on a visit to the Hanoi Department of Health on May 28, 2026.

The delegation held a meeting with Mr. Nguyen Trong Khoa, Director of the Hanoi Department of Health. Recognizing the importance of the visit, the Department invited leaders from nearly ten public and private hospitals across Hanoi to participate in the discussions and directly explore collaboration opportunities with the visiting healthcare enterprises.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Khoa welcomed the delegation and introduced Hanoi’s healthcare development strategy, highlighting key priorities such as healthcare digital transformation, smart hospital development, healthcare quality enhancement, and international cooperation. He expressed his hope that the visit would lead to stronger collaboration with Chinese healthcare institutions and enterprises, thereby contributing to technological innovation and service improvement within Hanoi’s healthcare system.

Dr. Jonathan Choi thanked the Hanoi Department of Health and participating hospitals for their warm hospitality. He noted that Sunwah Group has been operating in Vietnam for more than 56 years and has increasingly focused on healthcare and wellness initiatives in recent years. He emphasized that the delegation included leading companies specializing in digital healthcare, smart hospitals, biopharmaceuticals, innovative medicines, cell therapies, gene therapies, and medical devices, all seeking to establish long-term partnerships with Hanoi’s health sector.
During the business presentations, participating companies shared their expertise and international experience in digital health solutions, smart hospital systems, AI-powered medical applications, biopharmaceutical development, cell and gene therapies, regenerative medicine, and innovative pharmaceuticals. They expressed strong interest in collaborating with Hanoi’s hospitals and healthcare institutions on research, technology transfer, professional training, and pilot projects.
