Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce invited Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong to New Year Spring Reception

China.com – To celebrate the Year of Dog, on 22nd February, the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) hosted a Spring Reception with participation of Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong; Mr Tung Chee-hwa, Vice Chairman of National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Mr Tan Tienju, Deputy Director of Liaison Office of China’s Communist Party; Mr Xie Feng, Special Envoy of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong; Mr Zheng Guoyue, Vice Commander of Chinese Military in Hong Kong and more than 600 guests.

At the Spring Reception, Dr Jonathan Choi, Chairman of CGCC and Chairman of Sunwah Group shared that, to promote the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao bay area, CGCC will organize 4 major events in 2018, including the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Bay Area Forum which is expected to be held on 20th April 2018. Guests of Honors including Mrs Carrie Lam; Mr He Lifeng, Director of the National Development and Reform Committee; Mr Ma Xingrui, Governor of Guangdong Province; and Mr Fernando Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of Macao, will be invited to discuss in detail about the development of the bay area.

Hong Kong’s economy is growing steadily, CGCC plans to organize conferences on “One Belt, One Road” initiative

Besides the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao Bay Area Forum, CGCC is planning to organize a forum to discuss about strengthening  cooperation between Hong Kong and ASEAN at Jakarta, Indonesia. Moreover, CGCC will organize a forum about the role of Chinese enterprises in promoting “Belt and Road” initiative in Hong Kong and organize the “Belt and Road” Initiative Forum in Paris, France. Dr Jonathan Choi also shared that CGCC will invite Mrs Carrie Lam to visit Jakarta, Indonesia as well as attend the “Belt and Road” Initiative Forum in Paris, France.

CGCC also has plans to invite Chinese entrepreneurs from all over the world to Hong Kong to discuss about the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the development of Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao bay area.

Dr Jonathan Choi confirmed, under the government’s support, CGCC will actively participate in the promotion of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative as well as contribute to the development of the bay area in order to create opportunities for Hong Kong’s economy. Dr Jonathan Choi shared, “Last year, Hong Kong’s economy showed stable growth and yield positive results. There are improvements in Export, Services and Retail industries. Additionally, unemployment rate reduced considerably”. He also pointed out there are many factors that can affect Hong Kong’s economy such the U.S Government raising interest rates of USD, Brexit and the unstable political situation in the UK.

At the Reception, Mrs Carrie Lam expressed her pleasure at CGCC’s active contribution to the development of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao bay area along with promoting economic and commercial exchanges between Hong Kong and members of the ASEAN. Mrs Carrie Lam greatly appreciated CGCC’s role acting as the bridge between business enterprises and the government, actively promote Hong Kong’s image in China mainland and abroad as well as contribute to Hong Kong’s economy.

Mrs Carrie Lam confirmed that the government will support business enterprises in understanding development strategies of “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macao bay area as well as seizing new business opportunities generated by the Hong Kong – ASEAN Free Trade Agreement. She also noted that, in the next few months, Hong Kong government will apply several economic policies to create a more favorable business environment which can help enterprises raise their competitiveness and expand markets.
