Forum connecting trade in agriculture, forestry and fishery between Vietnam and China through Yunnan province

Sunwah – On the afternoon of May 31, within the framework of a business trip to two provinces of Guangxi and Yunnan (China), the delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (MARD) and representatives of the departments of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, General Department of Customs, leaders of Hoa Binh province, leaders of a number of Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Departments of Industry and Trade of major agricultural-forestry-fishery production provinces and provinces with border gates in the northern border area of Vietnam, which is led by Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam of MARD, attended the “Forum connecting trade in agriculture, forestry and fishery between Vietnam and China through Yunnan province” held in Kunming City, Yunnan province. The forum was organized by Sunwah Group (Hong Kong) and Yunnan – ASEAN Business Cooperation Committee in collaboration with the Department of Quality Management, Processing and Market Development (MARD), Consulate General of Vietnam in Kunming, Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Yunnan Province, Department of Foreign Affairs of Yunnan Province and Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province. More than 150 guests who are representatives of associations and enterprises of agricultural, forestry and fishery production and trade from the two countries discussed and exchanged ways of cooperation and development for mutual benefit. Mr. Jason Choi, General Director of Sunwah Group Southwest Area and Greater Bay Area of Guangdong – Hong Kong – Macau attended and delivered the opening speech of the Forum.

At the forum, Mr. Liu Xiaoquan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Yunnan Province, said that according to the statistics of Kunming Customs, in 2022, the trade turnover of agricultural products between Yunnan province and Vietnam will reach 6.337 billion yuan, accounting for about 15% of the agricultural trade turnover of Yunnan province. Yunnan attaches great importance to exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam. In recent years, Yunnan-Vietnam agricultural cooperation has basically formed a multi-dimensional, wide-ranging and comprehensive model of cooperation. Some provinces of Vietnam and Yunnan are geographically adjacent and have similarities in customs and practices as well as industrial resources, farming techniques, processing methods, and market demand etc. Agricultural cooperation between the two sides has a long history and maintains good development momentum, occupying an important position in bilateral cooperation. The organization of this Forum will definitely continue to contribute to promoting exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam and Yunnan in the near future.

Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, in his speech, said that China and Vietnam have a large room for business cooperation in the field of agriculture, forestry and fishery. This is the golden period for the two sides to further promote cooperation relations for common development. He encouraged the representatives of businesses of both sides during and after the forum to continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, together promoting the prosperity and development of agriculture, forestry and fishery of China and Vietnam.

Also within the framework of the business trip, on June 1, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, Mr. Tran Thanh Nam and the delegation visited and worked at Sunwah Group’s Yunnan Headquarters. The Deputy Minister expressed his hope that with the help of the group’s resources, the cooperation relationship between Vietnamese and Chinese agricultural enterprises will continue to be promoted, with joint efforts in goods clearance, fishery import and export. He also wished that Sunwah could support agricultural and rural tourism promotion to attract more tourists, thereby contributing to promoting the consumption of local tourism products. He also proposed the establishment of the “Yunnan – Vietnam Agricultural Enterprises Association” to provide a platform for exchange and cooperation between businesses in these two regions.
